Reading time: 2 minutes.
With the recent inauguration of Durazno International Airport, the modernization plan for interior airport terminals in Uruguay has been completed. This large-scale initiative, led by Aeropuertos Uruguay, aims to enhance connectivity with other countries in the region and between departments.

The project, developed by Gómez Platero Arquitectura & Urbanismo, included the renovation of six airports in Carmelo, Paysandú, Durazno, Salto, Rivera, and Melo, with the goal of strengthening the country's airport infrastructure and improving its competitiveness in the regional market.
Carmelo International Airport was the first to be inaugurated, marking the beginning of a series of interventions that gave each terminal a unified architectural identity while preserving their individual character. The design approach incorporated distinctive colors and graphic elements, creating a disruptive, dynamic, and contemporary aesthetic aligned with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
Each modernized airport now features new terminals equipped with state-of-the-art technology for international flight operations, along with significant infrastructure improvements, such as runway paving, the construction of taxiways and aircraft platforms, the installation of LED lighting systems, and the implementation of new perimeter fencing.

With the completion of this plan, Uruguay strengthens its airport network and enhances its connectivity, driving the country's economic, tourism, and logistics development.
