The Interior Terminals Upgrade Plan Begins

With President Luis Lacalle Pou in attendance, the foundation stone for the new Carmelo International Airport was laid, marking the commencement of the country's interior air terminal modernization plan in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization's standards, executed by Gómez Platero Architecture & Urbanism.

Aiming to achieve a unified identity for each terminal while presenting a cohesive global image, GP's work integrates various design elements that connect the unique features of each department with the new vision for Aeropuertos Uruguay.

The airport modernization encompasses the construction of a new terminal building equipped with all the amenities and technology required for international flights, the paving of the main runway 17-35 stretching 1080 meters, the construction of taxiways and an aircraft platform, the installation of LED lighting for the runway, taxiways, and platform, and the erection of a new perimeter fence.

The modernization plan also includes upgrades to the terminals in Rivera, Salto, Durazno, Melo, and Paysandú, with completion expected by the end of the year.

These new terminals are designed to enhance Uruguay's air connectivity and bolster the economic, tourist, and logistical development of the regions.
