GP at Los Notables: Shaping the Future of Punta del Este.

Martín Gómez Platero, director of Gómez Platero Architecture and Urbanism, and Martín Gómez of Martín Gómez Arquitectos (Argentina) came together on the program Los Notables to share their perspectives on the present and future of Punta del Este.

Hosted by Diego Fischer, the program invited the Uruguayan architect Martín Gómez Platero and the Argentine architect Martín Gómez to reflect on the future of Punta del Este, Maldonado, and the surrounding region. Beyond sharing a name and profession, both architects have a profound connection to this iconic destination, which has played a significant role in their careers and projects. 

During the discussion, they highlighted the unique essence of Punta del Este and explored the challenges of preserving its identity in a time of constant transformation. Both agreed that Punta del Este remains a one-of-a-kind place where diverse landscapes and lifestyles coexist. 

"I like the Punta del Este of today," said Gómez Platero, emphasizing the harmony between tranquil neighborhoods like San Rafael and La Barra and the more urbanized areas. Similarly, Martín Gómez, who has been connected to the area since childhood and has lived there since 1990, remarked, "Punta del Este remains the same in spirit and essence, despite the changes." 

The architects stressed the importance of environmental preservation as a cornerstone of the region's identity. Gómez Platero underscored the need for sustainable urban planning that respects the natural surroundings, ensuring that growth enhances rather than detracts from the area's character. 

The conversation also delved into the pressures of urban development and the importance of maintaining Punta del Este's essence as a seaside destination. Both architects agreed that while change is inevitable, it must be guided by thoughtful planning to ensure the region remains exceptional for generations to come.
