The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, celebrated the International Architecture Awards 2022, one of the most prestigious awards in the world of architecture. This event annually recognizes the most significant, inspiring, and relevant architectural and urban planning projects.
This award, dating back to 2005, is intended to honor the best new projects from all over the world that exemplify design excellence, architectural ambition, and provide a significant social impact to the public they serve.
For its 2022 edition, more than 450 projects from 48 different countries were registered and subsequently evaluated based on their inclusive design, resource utilization, and positive impact on the communities in which they are located. Among the firms that presented are AECOM, Grimshaw Architects, Aedas, and Zaha Hadid Architects, among others.
This year, Gómez Platero Arquitectura & Urbanismo was honored with three commendations for their projects: Catehua (a mixed-use development spanning 95,324 m² in Monterrey, Mexico, for Lemura Desarrollos), Gaura (a mixed-use development covering 68,660 m² in Guatemala City, developed by Grupo Rosul), and +Colonia (an urban master plan for 515 hectares in Colonia, Uruguay).
Previously, GP stood out as the sole recipient of the “Memorials” category award with its World Memorial project—a homage to life and nature. This project is distinguished by its creation of a public space that seamlessly integrates with the environment, fostering a unique connection with nature.
