On November 13, Gómez Platero Arquitectura y Urbanismo hosted the second Colombian edition of GP Talks Sessions, solidifying its reputation as a platform for meaningful dialogue on architecture, urbanism, and real estate. Held at Belgravia Luxury Home in Bogotá, the event convened industry leaders to explore how contemporary projects are reshaping cities and defining the future of urban spaces.
The panel featured Valentina Luque, Senior Manager Developer at Hilton for LATAM and the Caribbean; Andrés López González, Manager of AR Capital Partners; Ricardo Boada, Director of Strategic Investments at Yellowstone Capital Partners; and Ricardo Fernández, Regional Business Development Manager at Gómez Platero. Moderated by Julián Dos Santos, the discussion delved into the key trends driving urban development today.
A pivotal theme was the transformative potential of mixed-use and hypermixed-use developments in modern cities. These projects—seamlessly blending residential, commercial, hospitality, and office spaces—create synergies that diversify financial risks, foster vibrant communities, and elevate property values. Hyper-mixed-use developments, an emerging global trend, push these boundaries further by layering diverse uses within a single structure, enabling richer and more dynamic interactions.
The conversation also underscored the role of public spaces as catalysts for urban integration. Active, open ground floors were highlighted as essential to bridging private and public realms, fostering social connection, and revitalizing neighborhoods. Landmark projects like New York’s High Line illustrated how well-designed urban interventions can redefine their surroundings, enhance quality of life, and serve as cultural icons.
Architectural flexibility was another cornerstone of the discussion. In an era of rapid change, buildings designed for adaptability have shown remarkable resilience. This adaptability not only meets evolving needs but also positions mixed-use developments as forward-thinking, sustainable, and lucrative investments.
Colombia emerged as a focal point for real estate opportunities, with its diverse cities and growing connectivity making it a prime destination for investment. The rising demand for rental housing was identified as a key trend, along with the significance of self-liquidating projects that ensure clear exit strategies for institutional investors. In tourism, Colombia’s sustained growth continues to drive demand for projects combining hospitality, commerce, and entertainment.
Collaboration among stakeholders—architects, developers, investors, and public authorities—was a recurring theme. Achieving impactful, profitable projects requires a united effort to balance innovation, community integration, and sustainability. Throughout the event, sustainability was emphasized as not only a fundamental environmental principle but also a strategy to foster cohesive, resilient communities.
With this second edition, GP Talks Sessions reinforced its role as a thought leader in the industry, offering a dynamic space for conversations that place people, cities, and sustainability at the core of architectural and urban innovation.
