The Paysandú International Airport “Tydeo Larre Borges” is located five kilometers from downtown Paysandú, Uruguay, on an open site adjacent to the former terminal building. Respecting the characteristics of the surrounding environment and existing structures, the new passenger terminal was conceived with the objective of creating a flexible and modern hub within the country’s airport infrastructure network.
The terminal building is designed as a freestanding structure with a contemporary architectural language, characterized by a dynamic and angular volumetry. Its form is defined by a primary volume with clean lines and an inclined plane on the short façade, reinforcing its architectural identity. The layout of access points and spatial organization promotes seamless circulation, while its relationship with the surrounding landscape ensures a harmonious integration between the built environment and its natural context.
The project scope is divided into four key interventions: a new volume housing passenger arrivals and departures, immigration control, operational offices, and staff facilities; a tank and pump room for the water supply and fire protection system; a treatment plant serving the buildings within the perimeter; and the exterior spaces associated with the terminal, coordinated with the platform and parking area developments.

The Studio contributed its expertise in efficient, functional, and sustainable design, ensuring a balance between aesthetics, comfort, and environmental performance. This approach is reflected in the architectural planning, material selection, and spatial optimization, all aimed at enhancing the user experience.
The faceted and dynamic geometry of the building not only establishes a strong visual identity but also maximizes natural light utilization. Additionally, the integration of materials such as natural wood cladding and differentiated porcelain finishes enriches the sensory experience and creates a comfortable atmosphere. The spatial distribution prioritizes functionality and user well-being, featuring a spacious lobby as a central gathering point, intimate waiting areas, and a café.
At a conceptual level, the project positions Paysandú on the national infrastructure grid as a modern and well-equipped arrival point, ready to accommodate a new wave of travelers. Functioning as a key link in the territorial integration chain, Paysandú International Airport aims to enhance regional connectivity while fostering local economic development.
