The Sheraton Asunción Hotel renovation is conceived as a strategic intervention that redefines the building’s identity while preserving its structural integrity.
The proposal integrates contemporary design elements with local materiality and craftsmanship, enhancing both functionality and spatial experience.
The project encompasses key common areas—including the lobby, restaurant, ballroom entrances, corridors, and guest rooms—as well as the rooftop, which features a pool, bar, and gym. A fundamental aspect of the design is the dialogue between architecture and the urban fabric, achieved through a more permeable spatial configuration that strengthens the hotel’s connection with its surroundings.
The main entrance has been reimagined with a new pergola, providing shade and thermal comfort while reinforcing the relationship between the building and the public realm. This intervention fosters a more open and connected architecture, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces.

The lobby undergoes a significant transformation, where the existing curved staircase is replaced with a lighter, contemporary reinterpretation, enhancing the vertical connection between the reception area and the first floor. A skylight at the mid-landing introduces natural light into the ballroom entrance and event service areas, reinforcing spatial fluidity and visual continuity.
The check-in counter adopts a semi-open configuration with individual stations, framed by a decorative panel that repurposes pre-existing ñandutí textile pieces, introducing a distinctive local element. Opposite the reception, the mural by Paraguayan artist Carlos Colombino is relocated to a more prominent position, serving as a focal point within the gastronomic area.
Adjacent to the reception, lounge areas are designed to interact with coworking spaces and flexible multipurpose zones, catering to the evolving needs of corporate guests.
The interior design is rooted in a contemporary reinterpretation of Paraguayan craftsmanship, incorporating noble materials such as wood and stone, alongside native textiles and handcrafted clay ceramics. Custom-designed furniture and curated art pieces contribute to a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere, balancing tradition with modernity.

The ground-floor restaurant is conceived as a versatile and dynamic space, with flexible furniture configurations that accommodate breakfast service, fine dining, and private events. The spatial reconfiguration optimizes the buffet area, refurbishes a private dining room for intimate gatherings, and introduces new outdoor seating in the gallery.
The lighting and furniture layout are designed to adapt to different times of the day, allowing the space to transition from a daytime work environment to a more intimate bar setting at night. A hidden bar, activated in the evening, transforms the ambiance, introducing a layered spatial experience that merges contemporary aesthetics with local references.
The rooftop intervention reconfigures the gym, making way for an exclusive club lounge for the hotel’s loyalty program members. The architectural program is reorganized to optimize views, enhance the bar and pool area, and create a more immersive experience with the surrounding cityscape. Modular furniture allows for flexible configurations, ensuring a versatile and exclusive environment.
The landscape and lighting design reinforce the serene atmosphere, integrating native vegetation and climate-responsive materials that enhance durability and sustainability.
The guest rooms are updated with new finishes, furniture, and lighting, maintaining a refined and understated aesthetic. The design prioritizes guest comfort, incorporating acoustic materials and high-quality textiles. The corridors are reimagined with a neutral color palette and wooden accents, ensuring visual continuity with the common areas.
The Sheraton Asunción Hotel renovation represents a thoughtful balance between local identity, contemporary functionality, and sustainability. The intervention not only modernizes the building but also redefines its relationship with the city, fostering a more open, connected, and immersive architectural experience.
